Speculation and rumors had Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marillon Cotillard boarding the Dark Knight Rises casting train as early as several months ago, JGL as Falcone crime syndicate heir Alberto Falcone, Cotillard as Wayne foe/love interest, Talia al Ghul.
Well, the buzz was wrong... and right. Yes, the Christopher Nolan go-to-actors have officially signed on to portray characters in the film, but not the characters we expected. At least that's what we're being told. Confused?
Warner dropped word yesterday that Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a beat cop officer in Police Commissioner Gordon's force, and Cotillard will play Wayne Enterprise board member Miranda Tate. Both are unknown characters in the Batman oeuvre.
Nolan raves about his Inception stars, "When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again."
Anyone buying this? Never one to miss an opportunity to keep a lid on his projects, Nolan is known for his quick left turns and misdirects. He Knows he can't keep his cast under wraps forever, but it is not beneath him to "mislead" us a little bit on the characters they'll depict. We could be wrong about this, but don't be surprised to find out that this announcement is just a cover-up to mask the identities of more well-known Batman characters. Time will tell.
