Caddy ShackCaddyshack (1980) - Some call it the funniest movie of all time, others don't get it. Regardless, it's one of the most oft-quoted films of all time. That can't be disputed.


There's Somethign About MaryThere's Something About Mary (1998) - This Ferrelley Brothers comedy is often credited with ushering in the acceptance of semen sight gags in mainstream films.

The JerkThe Jerk (1979) - Mother: Navin, it's your birthday, and it's time you knew. You're not our natural-born child. Navin R. Johnson: I'm not? You mean I'm gonna STAY this color?


The Big LebowskiThe Big Lebowski (1998) - The Cohen Brothers find their way near the top of the list with another odd array of out-of-the-ordinary characters slapped right in the middle of an improbable situation.


Blazing SaddlesBlazing Saddles (1974) - A Mel Brooks comedy so cutting edge it's still not ready for prime time some 30 years later.


Wedding CrashersWedding Crashers (2005) - A perfect example of two comedic actors clicking perfectly. Rachel McAdams holds her own against Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn in this outrageously funny over-the-top raunch-com.


Fast Times at Ridgemont HighFast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) - Responsible for launching the career of Sean Penn. Nicolas Cage also makes a bit part at age 17.


Old SchoolOld School (2003) - Not every scene works, but the ones that do are side-splittingly hilarious. A must see if you've been to college... or even if you haven't.



Beverly Hills CopBeverly Hills Cop (1984) - Continued Eddie Murphy's comedic run after his Saturday Night Live days. 48 Hours, then Trading Places, then Beverly Hills Cop. Enough to make a man rich for life.


Young FrankensteinYoung Frankenstein (1974) - Another Mel Brooks/ Gene Wilder collaboration makes the list. A genuine comedy classic.


Duck SoupDuck Soup (1933) - If you've never seen a Marx Brothers comedy, this is the one to get you hooked. Watch the pioneers of comedy ply their craft.


AirplaneAirplane! (1980) - An airplane crew takes ill. Surely the only person capable of landing the plane is an ex-pilot afraid to fly. But don't call him Shirley.


ShrekShrek (2001) - The progenitor of the kid comedy filled with pop culture references thrown in to entertain the parents. True genius.


Monty PythonMonty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) - Watch it find out the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?


The generalThe General (1926) - Arguably the first action-comedy epic in cinematic history. Although it opened to scathing reviews, the film is now widely considered one of the greatest silent movies ever made.


The Princess BrideThe Princess Bride (1987) - One of the best chick-flicks of all time?


South ParkSouthpark: Bigger, Longer, Uncut (1999) - One of the rudest comedies you'll ever come across, but also one of the funniest.


Office SpaceOffice Space (1999) - Brought a bit of levity to the cubicled work place, but more importantly, it spawned the desire for the red Swingline stapler.



When Harry Met SallyWhen Harry Met Sally (1989) - Features one of the best female orgasm scenes in film history.


Dr. StrangeloveDr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) - In addition to being one of the funniest movies on the list, it also carries the hallowed distinction of having the longest name on the list.


The Wedding SingerThe Wedding Singer (1998) - One of the best and funniest movie about the '80s... that wasn't made in the '80s.

 

 


The 40 year-old virginThe 40 Year Old Virgin (2005) - Marks the big star debut of Steve Carrell. From the Judd Apatow stable of raunch-coms.


Modern TimesModern Times (1936) - A piece of poignantly genius comedy from the master of comedy, Charlie Chaplain.


Napoleon DynamiteNapoleon Dynamite (2004) - We don't know why this one is so funny, but it just is. Beginning to rival Caddyshack as the most oft-quoted film.


M*A*S*HM*A*S*H (1970) - Spawned one of the most successful television comedies of all time. In fact, the final episode still ranks as the most watched single episode in American television history.


Ground Hog DayGroundhog Day (1993) - Funny in a smart kind of way. Bill Murray was actually bitten by the groundhog twice during shooting.


This is Spinal TapThis is Spinal Tap (1984) - Another Christopher Guest masterpiece. This one set the standard for mockumentary comedy.


The Blues BrothersThe Blues Brothers (1980) - Another film that was trashed by critics but went on to become of the most-loved comedies of all time. Also holds the world record for the number of cars crashed.


Austin PowersAustin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) - So stupid and ridiculous... but it works.


Dumb and DumberDumb and Dumber (1994) - One of the best lowbrow comedies of all time. Also holds the distinction of spawning one of the worst sequels in cinematic history.


A Christmas StoryA Christmas Story (1983) - One of the best Christmas movies of all time is also one of the funniest. You can now tour the real house that was used for the exterior shots.


Some Like it HotSome Like it Hot (1959) - Yes, Marilyn could do funny. This Billy Wilder piece also stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.


VacationNational Lampoon's Vacation (1983) - The best of the vacation movies?


The HangoverThe Hangover (2009) - Golden Globe winner for best comedy movie of 2009. Its tagline "what happened last night?" says it all.
