The Oscar Results Are In - The Envelope Please

BEVERLY HILLS, CA - Well, the ballots have been read, the acceptance speeches recorded and the after-parties are over. The results of the Oscars fell pretty much in line with what everyone expected with the exception of a few surprises here and there. As we all thought, Helen Mirren and Forest Whittaker took home best actress and best actor awards respectively for their roles in The Queen and The Last King of Scotland. Despite holding nominations in three of the five slots for best song, Dreamgirls came up empty in that category with the Oscar going to Melissa Etheridge's An Inconvenient Truth for the movie of the same name instead.

The evening's only surprises - if you can even call them that - came in the ceremony's presentation of Supporting Actress to Jennifer Hudson for her performance in Dreamgirls, Best Animated Film to Happy Feet over Pixar's Cars and Foreign film honors going to The Lives of Others over the adult fairy-tale Pan's Labyrinth.

Overall the ceremony was rather laid back and casual, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres who seemed to prefer it that way. Her jokes mostly fell flat save for a humurous bit shared with Martin Scorsese as she presented him with a script near his seat in the audience.

OK, enough of the small talk, let's get on to the winners. Here's a list of all nominees and the winner of each category.
