Most memorable quote: Daphne: "Those creatures are taking over the world...that's so mean"

"Zoinks! Like, surely all you nay-sayers out there didn't expect this to be, like, some masterpiece made to entertain adults did ya' "? "Jenkies Shaggy! One can only deduce from all the dissenting reviews that that's precisely what they were expecting."
Of course we all loved the original Hanna-Barbera cartoon from the sixties and early seventies, and of course children of today still watch the same episodes that we loved. Weren't there only about 10 episodes? Anyway, the thing to remember is that we loved them when we were children and this is a children's movie, targeted for children, that sometimes sneaks in a laugh or two for the adults. (It also manages to sneak in a few peeks at the hot chicks for us men in the audience). I took my six-year old to see Scooby-Doo and this movie succeeds in entertaining the kids and those adults who like to watch their children be entertained. There were plenty of other children in the theater as well and it was funny to see that they all laugh in unison at exactly the same points throughout the movie. From the standpoint of entertainment on an adult level, it was fun for me to watch the cartoon characters that I have known for so long in their 2-D glory come to life as real people. Sure, it was corny and silly and stupid but I expected that. The voices and characterizations remained very true to the original cartoon.
Upon breaking up after solving their final mystery, the members of the Mystery, Inc. gang go their own separate ways. Several years later they are rejoined unknowingly on Spooky Island and must once again learn to work as a cohesive unit to solve a mystery. Along the way we see that, for the first time in the history of the Hanna-Barbera series, Shaggy (Mathew Lillard) finds a non-canine love interest played by the gorgeous Isla Fisher. For me personally, the most enjoyable part of the movie was seeing the performance of Lillard as Shaggy. It is obvious that he worked very hard studying his character and was very successful in bringing him to life.We also, disappointingly I might add, find that Velma (Linda Cardellini) falls for a guy and Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.) is self-absorbed in his own fame and success. This brings us to Daphne. Come on...all of you guys always knew that Daphne was the hot one that you always fantasized about. There is no question that Sarah Michelle Gellar puts on a great likeness with her purple mini-skirt and purple go-go boots. I thought it was actually quite interesting how during the middle of the movie during the action sequences, Daphne and Velma are suddenly wearing low-cut, v-neck, revealing halter-top type blouses and Velma actually looked good. Yes...you heard me right, Velma looked better than Daphne! Now! That's out of the way.
The script was a bit poor and the story line is kind of ridiculous, winding in and out of the dark world of the supernatural and probably most kids didn't even understand that part of the movie. But, what kids did understand and what they enjoyed most, were the sequences of bathroom humor, silly slapstick physical comedy and of course, the antics of the titular character himself, Scooby-Doo. To me, he just didn't even really look like the Scooby that I always knew. It seems like they could have done a better job with the CGI, but Oh well! The movie never tries to take itself seriously at all, in fact, most often makes fun of the original's templatized and repetitive plots. "I'd have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids". And of course, would it be Scooby-Doo if they didn't remove someone's mask?
