Movie Review

Guest review by Dan Berman

Many great people have gone into space and have been part of something that they themselves will always remember. I just saw a wonderful little short film on the International Space Station. Although it only clocked-in at a mere 48-minutes, it was indeed an interesting, and extremely educational experience. The film was called Space Station 3D and it certainly opened my eyes to what happens when a team of Astronauts prepare themselves for a mission into space. For the first time I was able to sit in the new 3D IMAX theatre, recently complete by the New England Aquarium. Narrated by Tom Cruise and directed and filmed by the Astronauts of the International Space Station, the movie experience is a truly enlightening adventure that brings you in close contact with the inner workings of the International Space Station. IMAX Theater presented the film at the New England Aquarium in Boston, Massachusetts.

Watching this film in IMAX-3D is certainly an in-depth and fascinating way to experience space. Although you can learn about space by watching certain television shows and stations like "NOVA", "The Discovery Channel", and "The History Channel", the IMAX experience allows you to undergo what it must be like to actually be in space. The 3-D feature makes it feels like you are right there on-board with them. An IMAX 3D short film is an outstanding place to learn and a refreshing way to watch a movie. They aren't interested in getting your attention with loud or disruptive special effects. They just want to deliver the full experience of being in space.

The film begins with the strenuous training and the extended preparations that are necessary before venturing into space. The filmmakers capture actual conversations and interviews with the astronauts on the Space Station. The story even goes back to the mid 1960s to highlight the history behind the first Space Station to have ever been launched.

Lockheed Martin presents this film in cooperation with NASA.

Here are some other events that will be playing at IMAX theatre which I'm looking forward to seeing in the near future: Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones; Cirque du Soleil: Journey of Man; Into the Deep; Lost Worlds: Life in the Balance (Narrated by Harrison Ford) as well as other notable short films like OceanMen: Extreme Dive.

If you know of an IMAX theater in your area, be sure to check out a short film. It presents a high quality learning experience that is hard to match.
