LBJ - Movie Trailer

After having seen many photos across the internet recently of Woody Harrelson’s cosmetic transformation into America’s 36th president, we finally get a look at some actual footage in Electric Entertainment’s release of the first trailer for LBJ, a film written by Joey Hartstone and Directed by Rob Reiner.

I cannot think of any other actor less physically suited to become Lyndon Baines Johnson than Woody Harrelson. And while it’s still quite a stretch, I must admit that they have pulled off the look quite admirably with a ton of make-up, plenty of latex prosthetics (including those iconic over-sized ears), and the signature bi-rimmed eyeglasses. The look is complete, for the most part, but that voice is more Woody Harrelson than it is the famous president with the Texas drawl. Much more convincing is Jennifer Jason Lee as Lady Bird Johnson.

The film touches on the brief period before JFK’s Assassination and hits its stride as it begins to roll out a history lesson of the whos, whats, wheres, and the whens of the tumultuous civil rights legislation and its affect on southern voters and the country as a whole.

The trailer features a lot of Oscar bait-y strain and dramatic pause as the controversial president’s story is laid out, and while we get some of it in the trailer, we’re hoping for a lot more of the daring brashness that made LBJ such an interesting president.

LBJ - Movie Trailer

LBJ is rated R for language. Would we expect anything else from the president known for demanding his pants be tailored with a lot more room between the crotch and bunghole?

LBJ will hit theaters this fall on November 3, 2017.
